GENERAL INFORMATION
Following the entry into force of the relevant amendment to the Spanish Law on Information Society Services (LSSICE) introduced by Royal Decree 13/2012, it is mandatory to obtain the user’s express consent on all websites that use non-essential cookies before the user browses them.
WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies and other similar technologies, such as local shared objects, flash cookies or pixels, are tools used by web servers to store and retrieve information about their visitors, as well as to ensure the proper functioning of the site.
The use of these devices enables the web server to remember certain information concerning the user, such as their preferences for viewing the pages on that server, username and password, products of greatest interest to them, etc.
COOKIES REQUIRING CONSENT AND EXEMPT COOKIES
According to the EU Directive, the cookies that require the user’s informed consent are analytics cookies and advertising and affiliate cookies, while technical cookies and those necessary for the operation of the website or for the provision of services expressly requested by the user are exempt.
WHAT TYPES OF COOKIES ARE THERE?
According to ownership
- First-party cookies: These are cookies sent to the user’s device from a computer or a domain managed by the publisher and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: These are cookies sent to the user’s device from a computer or domain that is not managed by the publisher, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.
According to duration
- Session cookies: These are a type of cookie designed to collect and store data whilst the user is accessing a website.
- Persistent cookies: These are a type of cookie in which the data remains stored on the terminal and may be accessed and processed for a period defined by the party responsible for the cookie, which may range from a few minutes to several years.
According to functionality
- Necessary cookies: These are cookies that are essential for the proper functioning of the website. They do not collect any type of user data and gather information such as language preference, whether the Cookie Policy has been accepted, etc.
- Analytics cookies: These are cookies which, whether processed by us or by third parties, allow us to quantify the number of users and thus measure and statistically analyse the use made by users of the service offered. To this end, users’ browsing activity on our website is analysed in order to improve the range of products or services we offer them.
- Advertising or marketing cookies: These are cookies that enable the advertising spaces that the publisher may have included on a website, application or platform from which the requested service is provided to be managed as effectively as possible, based on criteria such as the edited content or the frequency with which advertisements are displayed.
- Behavioural advertising or personalised marketing cookies: These are cookies that enable the advertising spaces that the publisher may have included on a website, application or platform from which the requested service is provided to be managed as effectively as possible. These cookies store information on users’ behaviour obtained through the continuous observation of their browsing habits, allowing a specific profile to be developed in order to display advertising based on that profile. Likewise, when visiting a website or opening an email containing an advertisement or promotion relating to our products or services, a cookie may be installed in your browser that enables us subsequently to show you advertising related to the search you have carried out, and to monitor our advertisements in relation, for example, to the number of times they are viewed, where they appear, at what time they are viewed, etc.
